SNOWDON (Y WYDDFA), WALES

(3,557 feet)

Melvyn Higson at the summit
Although I had previously climbed Snowdon (Y Wyddfa) on two occasions Chris insisted that, to complete our conquest, I should climb it again with him. The first time I climbed Snowdon was with my wife Sylvan and then again with her 8 days later. We first stayed in a picturesque village called Betws y coed in a beautiful Bed & Breakfast establishment called Fron Heulog. I can highly recommend a stay there especially for the food. Sampling the marinated mushrooms is a must. The climb started from the Pass of Llanberis following the 'Miner's Track' to the summit and the 'Pyg Track' back down. Both these tracks start from the same car park. The second climb started just outside Beddgelert, where we were staying. Beddgelert is the home of my childhood hero 'Rupert Bear'. This time we followed the 'Snowdon Ranger' and returned via the 'Rhyd-Ddu' paths. We had celebrated our wedding anniversary the night before and I wasn't feeling very well. Consequently, a few secluded rocks were 'christened' on the way up.
