Melvyn Higson, has conquered the highest peaks of the four countries of Great Britain and Ireland.  Ben Nevis (Scotland), Snowdon (Wales), Carrantuohill (Ireland) and Scafell Pike (England).

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My conquest, to conquer the four peaks, actually started after I climbed Ben Nevis. After a six and half hour climb with my friend Chris Gibbon we sat in the bar of our hotel and decided it would be great to climb the highest peak of each country of Great Britain. I had not even heard of Carrantuohill then. I had already climbed Snowdon a couple of times with Sylvan, my wife, following the Pyg, Miners, Snowdon Ranger and the Rhyd-Ddu Paths. Chris said I should do it again with him. I agreed on condition that we followed the 'Watkin Path' which is the most strenuous.  And so my conquest began.
